The 12th Annual Masturbate-A-Thon: Celebrating National Masturbation Month!

First, a sex-positive history lesson (that I certainly wasn’t taught in school!): National Masturbation Month was founded by the awesome folks over at Good Vibrations in 1995.

It started as a political protest over the firing of U.S. Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders who caused quite a buzz by seriously suggesting that masturbation should be comprehensive component of all sex education taught in America.

The celebration of self-loving has continued every May since, and there has even been the ever-so-incredible Masturbate-A-Thon, which is dedicated to fundraising for a variety of sex-positive non-profits, including those dedicated to making comprehensive sex education available to all. The first Masturbate-A-Thon was held in San Francisco, CA and San Fran is still the home of this sexy event.

It is in its twelfth year now, and other cities have joined in on the fun and fundraising, such as Portland, OR, Washington, D.C., London, England and Copenhagen, Denmark.

Don’t worry! You haven’t missed your chance. This year’s Masturbate-A-Thon is presented by the San Francisco Center for Sex & Culture in conjunction with Tube8.com. It takes place in SanFrancisco, CA on Sunday, May 30th, 2010.
