It seems like the number of toys for boys has been increasing lately, and slowly my interest in prostate play was piqued. Being a total beginner, however, many of the toys looked rather intimidating or seemed entirely too pricey for a first experiment.

The Onyx Prostate Massage Wand by the Sinclair Institute seemed like a good first choice. It is made from body safe materials – CyberGlass (a type of heat-tempered borosilciate glass) – and it looks damn good. Jet black with a slight silver pattern traced into the glass, the toy feels heavy and sturdy in my hand. It is definitely sexy dressed in silver on black and with a nice curve that I hope is going to pinpoint my prostate.

Being made of glass means the toy is a snap to sterilize. Anti-bacterial soap, warm water, or a little rubbing alcohol and is perfectly ready for the next session. It also starts out very cool to the touch and quickly warms to body temperature after just a little play time. I enjoy the sensation of cool turning to warm, but if someone isn’t as much into that transition then it could easily be warmed up before using.

The first time I used the Onyx Prostate Massage Wand, I was surprised at how easily the wand was to insert. Granted, it was covered in a water based lubricant, but even then I had no issues inserting the wand to the first flaring. Here it is important to note that the wand has an obvious textured “business-end” with a nice flare in the middle and another couple inches to use as a handle. This was comforting since it allowed me to make sure I had a good grip on the toy and could control both depth and movement in order to try to find the prostate.

I definitely knew the wand was there. The glass provides a very solid and filled sensation.  I couldn’t necessarily pick out the texture on the end but with a little maneuvering I was able to apply pressure in a fashion that felt good.  I spent a little time without any penis-contact at all, and simply adjusted the toy to try different angles and sensations. It was a newbie mistake, but getting any kind of lubricant on the external portion of the toy made it challenging to hold and to manipulate. Since I was also continuously holding the wand, it became a tiny bit awkward. Using it with a partner alleviated that concern since it was easy enough for her to keep lubricant off of her hand that was handling the wand.

I found the easiest position for use was lying on my back with my knees raised and feet flat on the floor/bed, or to be leaning over something. Lying on my back allowed me to tilt my pelvis slightly upward giving a little better angle, and in general made hitting the prostate a little simpler. That being said, I’m looking forward to trying out some new positions.

So far (in both solo and partnered-sessions), I haven’t experienced anything completely mind-blowing, but there is no doubt that using the Onyx Prostate Massage Wand for stimulation changes the characteristics and nature of my orgasm. In general, with the wand working the prostate I can feel a more intense orgasm. Is it a full-body “Super O” that some people claim to experience with prostate stimulation? Not yet. Perhaps that will come with experience and practice. It is, however, a stronger orgasm that leaves my legs somewhat wobbly, and a full-body sensation of being a little lighter.

Overall, the Onyx Prostate Massage Wand is a pretty easy recommendation – especially for beginners.  It is easy to clean, well-priced, body-safe, and designed specifically for men. I like the fact that it is easily usable for solo, partner, and temperature play. My only complaints are very minor. Since it is so easy to insert and good for newbies it has a smooth shaft. After a few sessions I really think I would like a little more texture for stimulation on insertion. I couldn’t feel the ridges on the head of the wand at all.  Also, a bullet vibe can’t be used with the device, as its not designed to provide vibrating stimulation.  The drawbacks, though, are admittedly pretty minor and easily offset by the positives, at least from where I’m sitting!

It is well worth checking out. As a pretty inexpensive and body safe experiment it is a safe way to dip a toe (or perhaps other body part) into the water.
