You Can Be My Little Matron Any Day: A Review of the Matryoshka Vibrator
Matryoshka is just as sweet and darling as I thought she’d be when I first saw that Babeland–the awesome, women-friendly, sex-positive shop for adult toys–was going to carry her. But actually, truth be told, she’s slightly more darling than anticipated at just under 3-1/2″ tall. This little matron, made of hypo-allergenic, non-porous, phthalate-free, body-friendly silicone, is soft and silky in your hand and packs a punch of rumbly vibration with a number of escalation and pulsation options, too.
She sits, cradled by her charging base/stand, and flashes a pretty blue light as she charges. For first-use, it’s recommended that you charge Matryoshka for about eight hours. For subsequent uses, it takes two hours for Matryoshka to reach her full-charge. (Please don’t charge Matryoshka for longer than 12 hours at a time.) When she’s charged, the light stops flashing. If you need to be discreet, or are just a neat-freak, you can pop the cover of the charging case on, and no toy will be visible, just a shiny, cylindrical, plastic purple case… with a trailing power cord. Nifty, huh?
For the past few weeks, Matryoshka has been my go-to toy for clitoral stimulation. I’ve left her sitting pretty on my nightstand, and she’s inevitably made it into my hand many a night (and morning). She’s been full of juice, and I haven’t had to charge her since the first full-charge, which has amazed me. During the writing of this review, she finally tuckered out. You’ll see a red flashing light illuminating the power button and the initials R.S. (for the designer, Rianne S.) when you need to place Matryoshka back on the charging dock, just like I’m seeing now.
When I first started playing with the five vibration patterns offered by Matryoshka, I was disappointed. I couldn’t understand why such a thoughtfully-designed toy would prove to be so weak. Then, I discovered that you have five speeds available to you, and you can scroll through them, increasing the intensity of vibration with any of the patterns (or your standard, constant vibration) to find your desired level of pleasure. Discovering that was a relief!
I probably could have saved myself from the mini freak-out if I had first read the instruction manual that accompanies Matryoshka (with six languages to choose from, aside from English). Besides the manual, inside the deep purple glossy box, you’ll find power adapters for the USA, Australia, and Europe, so you can take Matryoshka with you when you go jet-setting. Also included is a soft travel pouch to keep your toy safe and lint-free, a warranty card in its own pretty envelope, a booklet with information on other products by Rianne S. and how to best use them for your pleasure (which ends with a cute chart detailing the various ways to experience orgasm), as well as the charging base and the Matryoshka vibrator herself.
On the front of this adorable pleasure object are the embossed initials of the designer, as aforementioned. Directly above that you’ll find a tiny, raised, round button. Push it once, and you’ll see a blue light glow briefly and Matryoshka will turn on (at the lowest constant vibration level). Each subsequent time you push the button, it will also flash blue, and the vibration intensity will go up one level. Once you’ve cycled through all five levels, pushing the power button again will drop the vibrations back down to the lowest level, and you have the option to cycle through them all again at whim.
There is a second button above the power button,
decorated with a raised sine curve. This is the function button.
Pressing it will start to cycle through the various pulsation patterns,
and like the power button, it will flash blue every time it’s pressed.
If you want to raise (or lower) the intensity of a specific pulsation
patter, hit the power button below. To turn off Matryoshka, press and
hold the power button for about three seconds. The controls are pretty
straightforward, though it does take some getting used to the small
buttons, and being able to find them in the middle of a pleasure romp,
especially when the little matron gets slippery and starts twirling
around!
What else do you need to know? Despite the bullet point indicating otherwise on the outside sleeve of the box, Matryoshka is not a flexible toy. The silicone has a little bit of give to it, but the shape of the toy is firmly molded. For the likes of me, this is a perk, as it enables Matryoshka to deliver more powerful, direct vibrations to your clit (or wherever you choose to use her).
Matryoshka is short and study, and lends herself well to being palmed or grasped with just a few fingers during solo-use or partner-play. It’s convenient that she’s small enough to fit comfortably in the palm of a woman’s hand (kudos to the designer for that!). However, due to Matryoshka’s petite and shapely figure, she does need to be constantly held in position during use, so keep that in mind, as well.
Matryoshka is designed as an external vibrator, and you’ll only get about 1-1/4″ of insertable length if you explore (closer to 1-1/2″ of insertable length if you’re okay with the function button being temporarily inaccessible). Feel free to use Matryoshka to tease the entire vulva, the opening of the vaginal canal, or the perineum, as well as to stimulate blood-flow to the nipples. This little matron isn’t just for the ladies, though. Matryoshka’s compact size and ease-of-use makes her a delight to add sensation over the cock and balls during masturbation, intercourse, or oral sex, regardless of your identity or orientation.
Matryoshka is waterproof, and I’ve used her underwater, as well as beneath running water, with complete success. Speaking of water, you can clean Matryoshka with warm water and mild soap. If you are a fan of lubricant (which I definitely recommend with Matryoshka, as it minimizes the drag from the silicone and intensifies the vibration sensations), stick to water-based lubes only with this toy.
I’ve experienced some difficulty with charging Matryoshka, even when I was careful to place her on the charging dock so that the contacts aligned. She would blink blue for a few seconds to indicate charging-in-process, and then stop, as if she had suddenly, without outside disruption, become mis-seated on her tiny throne. Picking the vibrator up and setting it down again usually restarted the charging process for me, though sometimes I had to wiggle Matryoshka around on the base until I saw the flashing blue light (thank goodness for that indicator!) or push down on her for a few seconds to get things running more smoothly. You do have to make sure to charge her on a level surface (which I did), but I haven’t been able to identify a reason for my difficulties. This, as you probably imagine, is annoying. It’s my biggest pet-peeve with Matryoshka.
All-in-all, I love the innovative design of Matryoshka, which is unlike any other that I’ve run across. I’m pleased with the pulsation options and intensity levels offered in this teeny beaut. I adore that she’s a green toy, and waterproof, as well as easy to travel with.
On my wishlist? A whole set of Matryoshka-styled vibrators in increasing size. It would be so adorable to have a complete set sitting daintily on a shelf in my boudoir or in my living room. I wouldn’t mind having a set of Russian Nesting Dolls mingling alongside these pleasure objects, either. Talk about a conversation piece!
Matryoshka is available in pale pink, fuchsia, and a deep purple, and retailed exclusively at Babeland. Get your own little matron today, and let the orgasms commence!
