The LELO Tiani is one of three new products in the second generation of LELO’s Insignia Line. Tiani features SenseMotion™ technology, for what is advertised as a wireless couples’ pleasure experience, unlike anything that has previously existed.

LELO Insignia Tiani Wireless Couple's Vibrator

LELO Tiani and Remote.

While there is no doubt that Tiani is an adorable, flexible and sweet little toy for solo play, partnered adventures, or whatever trouble you can imagine up, it’s not on my list of favorite adult toys. I really wanted to like Tiani, but we didn’t mesh well. There are just one too many design flaws, as I perceive them, that limit functionality, and make me feel like it’s just not worth its price tag.

I recognize that I am a lone voice in an ocean of LELO-obsessed that isn’t addicted to their products, packaging, design or technology. I don’t really find it all that impressive or innovative, and I don’t understand their status in the industry. Granted, with the recent lawsuit brought by We-Vibe’s parent company, perhaps LELO will shift in the eyes of consumers. I’m not sure it matters that LELO is to “vigorously defend” against the legal actions.

All the hullabaloo aside, let’s take a look at the Tiani. It is a u-shaped vibrator with a disc-like remote that controls the main body of the toy wirelessly. It is purported to have a range of 39 meters, but I’m not sure where LELO conducted the tests that support such a claim or how, for that matter. I didn’t experience anything of the sort. Alongside other reviewers, I found range to be interrupted by simple things like *gasp* closing my legs around the toy or reclining in such a way that meant that the transmitter was not in a straight line to Tiani, even though it was within line-of-sight.

LELO Tiani: Dissection. For Those Curious About What the Tiani Looks Like, Thin Film of Silicone Aside.

It also annoys me that so much of the advertising bills Tiani as a silicone vibrator, when really it’s mostly constructed out of ABS plastic[1] and is then coated in a thin layer of silicone. This layer is so thin that if you fidget around with your Tiani,[2] don’t be surprised if the silicone rips. It will do this if it gets caught on something so benign as a sharp fingernail. Did I mention that the nails were au naturale and not even acrylics… umm, yeah. Utter fail.

Also, if you’re going to make a remote vibrate,[3] please make the vibrations decent enough and dispersed enough that the hand holding the remote won’t go numb after just a few minutes of use. I know that I don’t want a numb hand, and I don’t want to pay over $150 for the privilege of such, not to mention that I wouldn’t want a lover to suffer through the same!

Let’s take a moment to talk about power: Tiani is a rechargeable vibrator. By this, LELO means that the u-shaped Tiani is rechargeable after you completely unscrew the vibrator from its silicone end.[4] You must unscrew the toy in order to plug in the Tiani for charging purposes. I don’t like having loose pieces of sex toys[5] on my bedside table, or wherever it is that I may be able to find an outlet. This is not conducive to travel, children, or pets that like to run around and pick up shiny new things and carry them off and hide them.[6]

Tiani: Dissection, Part Deux. A Close-Up of the Toy's Remote.

On the subject of vibration,[7] even at its highest steady vibration or through any of its patterns, I find the vibration weak-sauce and buzzy. Definitely not my choice for pleasure, whether I’m seeking an orgasm or just a playful tryst with some spontaneous stimulation. I make no attempt to hide the fact that I’m a Hitachi gal when I am going for vibration, though toy-wise I prefer a good hard fuck with a decent dildo most days to the distraction that is vibration. In any case, I thought LELO would do better. I thought LELO could do better.

If, however, you’re new to toys and have a bunch of money to toss around every which way, or happen to be a LELO-enthusiast, you may want to check out Tiani. Do your own exploring. Let me know what you think!

  1. which doesn’t scream luxury to me
  2. I certainly do a lot of fidgeting with my toys; who doesn’t?
  3. I like the concept for couple’s play: it ostensibly creates a feedback-loop and allows the giver to know approximately what the receiver is feeling
  4. I’m also a bit disappointed that half of the vibrator is not a vibrator at all, but just an insertable bit that holds Tiani snug against the clitoris during intercourse or other sexy time.
  5. This is somewhat like sex toy crumbs. Blech.
  6. Yes, my kitten is one of those pets.
  7. since Tiani is a vibrator after all, from one of the supposed premiere adult toy companies

i haven't used it alone (cos i agree the vibes arent gonna take me there on its own)but had quite some fun with my bf when we used it during foreplay…i think for this purpose it was pretty great, it excited him quite a bit to do the controlling and of course i think i got the better end of the deal ;)

anyhow maybe you could go directly to lelo and bring up your issues regarding the remote to them? i'm pretty sure they'll respond rather helpfully, i had an issue with my ina and the folks there sent me a replacement right away, it's been serving me well since hehe

Thanks for this review, A.E. I'm a Lelo fan, but this latest crop of toys seems underwhelming . . . why would I want to remote-control a vibrator when I'm within easy reach of my flesh-and-blood lover? Also, I wasn't impressed with my We-Vibe Original, and find cock-ring vibrators like Lelo's Bo to be a lot more practical . . . and fun!
